Minecraft server hosting FAQ

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a sandbox game by Mojang Studios where you explore endless block worlds, gather resources, build and survive. It comes in Java Edition (PC) and Bedrock Edition (consoles, mobile and Windows), and is the best-selling video game of all time.

What can you do on a Minecraft server?

Whatever you like: a private survival world for friends, a public community server with Paper or Purpur plugins, a modded world with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or a full modpack, or a creative build server. It stays online 24/7, even when you're not playing.

How much RAM does my Minecraft server need?

2 GB covers about 10 players, 4 GB about 20, and 6-8 GB 40 or more. Modpacks need at least 8 GB; large packs like All the Mods 10 run best with 16 GB or more on the DDR5 Premium tier. You can change RAM at any time.

Can I run a modpack?

Yes. Pick RLCraft Dregora or All the Mods 10 at checkout, or choose CurseForge or Modrinth and enter the pack's project ID to install any modpack. Modpack servers start at 8 GB of RAM.

How do players connect?

Java Edition: Multiplayer, Add Server, then enter yourname.play.octopuscloud.org - no port needed. Bedrock Edition: the same address plus the port shown on your dashboard.

Can Bedrock players join?

Choose Bedrock Edition at checkout. Windows and mobile players add your address under Servers. Console players need a third-party workaround, because console Bedrock only lists Microsoft's featured servers. Java and Bedrock are separate editions, so pick the one your players use.

Can I upload my own world, plugins or server JAR?

Yes. You get full file access through the control panel's file manager and SFTP.

I've never run a Minecraft server before. Can you help if I get stuck?

Yes. Email support@octopuscloud.org (we aim to reply within a few hours) or ask in our Discord community. Your dashboard shows everything players need to connect, and the control panel gives you a live console, file manager and backups.

Can I change my plan or upgrade later?

Yes. Change RAM, storage, backups, the CPU boost, the hardware tier or the billing cycle from your dashboard. Upgrades apply immediately with a prorated charge; downgrades take effect at the end of your billing period. Switching between DDR4 Budget and DDR5 Premium moves your server to the new hardware for you.

How do I create a Minecraft server?

Pick Java or Bedrock and your server software or modpack above, choose RAM and hardware, and check out. Your server is set up automatically, and you'll find its address (Bedrock servers also show the port) on your dashboard.

How long does setup take?

Most Minecraft servers are ready about a minute after checkout; modpacks take a few minutes longer to install.

Can I get my money back if I don't like my server?

Payments are generally non-refundable, except where required by law. There's no contract: cancel anytime from your dashboard and keep your server until the end of the period you've paid for. If you think you were charged in error, email support@octopuscloud.org and we'll review it in good faith.

What happens if I cancel?

Your server keeps running until the end of your paid period. After that we keep it and its backups for 30 days, and you can still download your files. Resubscribe within that window and everything is restored as it was. After 30 days it's permanently deleted.

Where are your servers located?

In the Eastern USA. You can test your ping from our homepage.
