Space Engineers server hosting FAQ
What is Space Engineers?
Space Engineers is a sandbox game by Keen Software House about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. You build ships, stations and rovers block by block.
What can you do on a Space Engineers server?
Build ships and stations together in Survival or Creative, run a community server with Torch plugins, add mods, and play across PC and console.
How much RAM does a Space Engineers server need?
Space Engineers servers start at 6 GB, and the configurator suggests 8 GB. Large grids, more players and mods benefit from 16 GB or more.
Can console players join?
Yes. Cross-platform play is on by default, so PC and console players can join the same server. If console players will join, pick your mods from mod.io.
How do I add mods?
Add Steam Workshop mod IDs or mod.io mod IDs in your control panel's Startup settings, then restart the server.
Vanilla or Torch: which should I pick?
Vanilla is the official dedicated server. Torch adds a plugin system and admin tools.
Can I switch between Survival and Creative?
Yes. Change the game mode and many other world settings in your control panel's Startup settings.
I've never run a Space Engineers server before. Can you help if I get stuck?
Yes. Email support@octopuscloud.org (we aim to reply within a few hours) or ask in our Discord community. Your dashboard shows everything players need to connect, and the control panel gives you a live console, file manager and backups.
Can I change my plan or upgrade later?
Yes. Change RAM, storage, backups, the CPU boost, the hardware tier or the billing cycle from your dashboard. Upgrades apply immediately with a prorated charge; downgrades take effect at the end of your billing period. Switching between DDR4 Budget and DDR5 Premium moves your server to the new hardware for you.
How do I create a Space Engineers server?
Pick Vanilla or Torch above, choose RAM and hardware, and check out. Your server is set up automatically, and you'll find its address, port and password on your dashboard.
How long does setup take?
Setup starts automatically right after checkout. The first start downloads the Space Engineers server files, so it can take several minutes before players can join; you can follow the progress in the control panel console.
Can I get my money back if I don't like my server?
Payments are generally non-refundable, except where required by law. There's no contract: cancel anytime from your dashboard and keep your server until the end of the period you've paid for. If you think you were charged in error, email support@octopuscloud.org and we'll review it in good faith.
What happens if I cancel?
Your server keeps running until the end of your paid period. After that we keep it and its backups for 30 days, and you can still download your files. Resubscribe within that window and everything is restored as it was. After 30 days it's permanently deleted.
Where are your servers located?
In the Eastern USA. You can test your ping from our homepage.
